If you haven’t caught on, Autumn is my favorite time of the year. I love the crisp mornings, the cool fog that settles over the valleys in this area, the changing colors that surround me on my way to work each morning, the introduction of winter squash to the local market, and the smells of spiced everything (apples, pumpkin, cookies, whathaveyou).
I was especially in love with the season this morning as I hung out with my sister at the Fayetteville Farmer’s Market. While the crowd was small today (the locals are avoiding the roads due to Bikes Blues and BBQ) the day couldn’t have been any better. The sun was beautiful and bounced playfully off of my handspun yarns beckoning shoppers over, the breeze, while cool, reminded me that even if it felt like everything came to a halt for me this past August, things still change and settle as they have forever, the city gardens were still vibrant with color, but with the deep reds, oranges and yellows of the season, yes – today was a gorgeous day.
I thought I’d list a few of my favorite things about the season below.
Fayetteville Farmer’s Market (my yarn on display there above)
These caramels from Have It Confections on Etsy
Pumpkins and other winter squash in a HUGE variety of colors
I can begin to wear scarves and cowls in the mornings
Grilled cheese and soup – lots and lots of soup
Opening up the house and turning off the AC
Cleaning up the gardens and getting them ready for winter
Making basil pesto with the last of the summer basil in my herb garden
I think I’ll begin listing these items here on my blog as they come to me. It’s a great way to celebrate the season with all of you. Please leave a comment sharing your Autumn favorites with me

Ahh I even almost went to the market this morning, but I'm kind of glad I didn't, because I would have wanted /so badly/ to buy some of your yarn and we just don't have the money right now. But man, your stuff is soooo pretty… someday, someday I can buy some X D.
Hi Ann – thanks for stopping by my blog. I'll be around… so yes, I bet you can someday buy some yarn 🙂
you have such a wonderfully positve attitude. you know (at such a young age!) that all you have is the present moment.
I took my niece to the farmer's market and realized that one of my favorite things about the changing of seasons is seeing what foods are overabundant, in season. For example we got a TON of pickling cucumbers for just $4! Hel-lo homemade dill pickles :)I, too, am addicted to scarves. My favorite thing about the fall though, is the itch I get to break out my crochet needles and sewing machine. It's like an old friend ambling back into my life after months of absence 🙂
If you need to offload any of those pickles, Christina, you know where to find me! :)I did okra a few weeks ago. It's funny how at the beginning of the season, the veggies are so pricey, but towards the end, you can get some great deals on TONS of veggies. Perfect for pickling and canning.
My favorite is everything pumpkin – beer, bread, yum!
One of these days I'm going to make it up there when you're at the farmer's market!I love the changing seasons and can't wait for fall to settle in a bit more down here. It always feels like a fresh start which is inspiring to me.
what about that jar of okra pickles I was going to get, hmmmm…? :)I love craft fair season, cuz I get to spend several long days with my sis!!
I would have to say the scents of autumn are my favorite. But I also love the change of seasons, getting to put on cozy sweaters, watching the leaves on the trees turn… gosh, I dunno! I'm already thinking about what I'm going to plant in my yard next year, but I think that's because we finally finished painting the house, and I can start looking forward now on the yard… I'm ready for spring again, haha!
